Kasteel van Rijkel in Borgloon represents an important part of the town's cultural and architectural heritage. The castle originated in the 16th century with the east wing being the oldest section, but was substantially rebuilt in the 17th and 18th centuries. Owned by the Province of Limburg since 1965, the castle now houses the Service of the Arts Patrimony of the province and is set within 9 hectares of standard fruit trees. The park remains entirely accessible to the public, while portions of the castle are partially open to visitors.
