Castle of Peratallada

Castle of Peratallada comprises two distinct architectural sectors perched within the medieval town of Girona province. The fortified nucleus crowns a 4-5 meter rocky outcrop featuring the iconic Tower of Homage with preserved crenellations, while an extensive palace complex showcases four large Gothic windows with slender columns and trefoil arches representing refinement of medieval architecture. First documented in 1065 though likely older, the ensemble represents an amalgamation of structures from multiple epochs. After serving as a farmstead through the 20th century, restoration began around 1965 by the counts of Torroella de Montgrí. The surrounding medieval town retains its original urban layout with narrow streets, restaurants, and artisan shops, nestled between Barcelona and the French border within the Empordà region.
