Castle of Montefrío crowns a dramatic rock formation at the heart of Montefrío in Granada province, rising as a striking Nasrid fortress built in 1352 under the reign of Yusuf I of Granada. Designed by the same architect who created the Alcazaba of the Alhambra, this hilltop stronghold commanded a crucial position between the Sierra de Priego and Sierra Parapanda, serving as a chief frontier defense during the 15th century. The Catholic Monarchs rebuilt it in 1507, and today it offers breathtaking panoramic vistas across the surrounding countryside. In 1982, the town was designated a Historic-Artistic Site, honoring its architectural and cultural significance.
