Castillo de Monóvar is a fortress from the Almohad period (12th-13th centuries) situated on a commanding hilltop overlooking the town of Monóvar in Alicante. The castle's irregular floor plan adapts to its steep hillside setting, and archaeological investigation reveals Bronze Age remains and artifacts spanning multiple historical periods, indicating continuous occupation over centuries. The elevated position provided ideal strategic control over local trade routes and settlements. Though now in ruins, visitors can observe remaining sections of defensive walls and towers. The surrounding area offers additional cultural attractions including a clock tower, the Parish Church of San Juan Bautista, and museums celebrating local arts and the legacy of writer Azorín.
