Kasteel van Heers, a late Gothic castle in the rolling Haspengouw landscape of Limburg, traces its roots to 1274 when the Lords of Heers first established their fortress. The present castle, rebuilt after being burned during a 1328 war, was reconstructed around 1500 and is noted for its large courtyards and tranquil rural setting. After lying abandoned for many years, the castle came under Flemish government protection in 2007, with management transferred to Herita to oversee its restoration and preservation, attracting visitors interested in exploring more than 1000 years of regional history.
