Castle of Berrueco, situated on El Cerro San Antón in the depopulated area of Torredelcampo, Jaén, held great strategic importance in medieval Andalusia. Constructed in the 12th century during Almohad occupation and remodeled after the 1228 Castilian conquest, the fortress became the dominant castle in the region. Its two enclosures feature three defending towers in the upper section, with a rectangular fortification layout adapted to its rocky hilltop location. The castle controlled vital passages connecting Jaén, Martos, Arjona, and Andújar, playing a crucial role in 15th-century conflicts affecting Spanish succession. Today, visitors encounter a consolidated ruin offering insights into medieval frontier defense strategies and territorial control in central Andalusia.
