Castle Magner

Castle Magner sits in the Duhallow area northwest of Mallow, County Cork, originating as a Norman motte and bailey built around 1183 by William Magner. This tower house derives its name from the Magner family, who originally held these lands. Though largely destroyed in the late 16th century and significantly damaged during the Cromwellian conquest, the stair turret and portions of the surrounding bawn wall survive. The castle remains part of a farmer's residence today, its ruins a testament to the Norman-era fortifications that shaped medieval Ireland's defensive landscape.
