Castle Lassay

Château de Lassay is a remarkably well-preserved medieval fortress built in the 14th and 15th centuries, representing an exceptional example of homogeneous, intact military architecture. The castle features eight substantial round towers linked by curtain walls with machicolations, a monumental two-storey barbican, and artillery boulevard. Scenically situated beside one of the town's ponds in Lassay-les-Châteaux, Mayenne, the fortress retains all original defensive elements including the gatehouse and drawbridge. Guided tours reveal furnished rooms, kitchen with curious granite garden features, and antique copperware collections. The castle hosts important historical reenactments during summer, including horse and foot jousting shows, while visitors can operate the drawbridge during first and last tours, making it an active cultural and events venue.
