Castell de Granyena holds exceptional significance as the first Catalan castle donated to the Order of the Templars, granted in 1130–1131 by Ramon Berenguar III. This pivotal gift established one of the order's most important commanderies in Catalonia, managing vast territorial holdings and monastic interests. When the Templars dissolved in the early 14th century, the Order of the Hospital inherited the estate and maintained control until the 19th century. Though now largely in ruins, the castle's dilapidated enclosure still conveys the scale of its former importance and can be visited to observe the remains of this historically significant medieval stronghold.
