Castle Freke is a striking 18th-century country house set on an elevated site overlooking the sea near the village of Castlefreke in County Cork. Originally a 15th-century tower house belonging to the Barry family, it was transformed c.1780 into a detached multi-storey mansion and subsequently given Gothic Revival features including towers, bartizans, and castellations by architect William Morrison in 1807. The building's prominent position makes it visible for miles from both land and sea, and it represents an important example of classical Irish country house architecture that has been restored in recent years.
