Castle Campbell

Castle Campbell is one of Scotland's most dramatically positioned fortress, perched on a narrow ridge high above Dollar Glen with steep ravines containing the Burn of Care and Burn of Sorrow on either side. Built in the 1400s as a tower house, it served as the Lowland stronghold of the powerful Campbell earls of Argyll, one of medieval Scotland's most influential families. The well-preserved castle features distinctive Mediterranean-style loggia architecture and terraced gardens offering scenic vistas across the glen, including a historic site associated with John Knox's 1556 sermon.
