Castillo del Berrueco is a Muslim fortress built around the 12th century and later reformed under Castilian rule, located on a rocky outcrop in Torredelcampo, Jaén province. Positioned strategically about 18 kilometers from the provincial capital and 5 kilometers from Fuerte del Rey, the castle was contested during border conflicts between Moors and Christians, as well as in noble disputes during the reign of Enrique IV. The fortification features a rectangular floor plan adapted to steep terrain, with two levels: the lower level enclosed livestock, while the upper plaza de armas housed garrison facilities. Its location along a minor paved road from antiquity underscores its enduring strategic importance in frontier defense.
