Castillo de Tajarja

Castillo de Tajarja is an ancient Arab fortress located in the locality of the same name within Chimeneas municipality, Granada province, in the northern Alhama region, five kilometers from Chimeneas. Following the Reconquest, King Ferdinand III ordered its destruction to prevent Moorish recapture. The small fortress features a probable trapezoidal layout with only two visible wall sections remaining, each displaying five crenellations with slightly pointed horseshoe arch doorways. Today, the castle occupies a central plaza in the locality that houses a chapel and residences, serving approximately 329 inhabitants as of 2022.
