Castillo de Soto de Aller

Castillo de Soto de Aller stands in the village of Soto de Aller in the council of Aller, Asturias, representing one of few preserved examples of military architecture in the region. Origins trace to the 12th century, though current remains primarily date from the 14th century when it was rebuilt as a residence and defensive structure for local nobility, particularly the influential García de Soto family. The late Gothic structure features cylindrical towers and robust walls, with ruins preserving most of the wall perimeter, part of a large quadrangular tower, and the entrance gate. Designated a Cultural Heritage Site in 1975 and undergoing major restoration work completed in 2022, the castle reflects medieval Asturian noble power and architectural traditions.
