Castillo de Solera rises on a rocky spur in the Jandulilla River valley in Huelma municipality, Jaén province, standing at 1,090 meters elevation as the highest castle in the province. This Arab fortress, constructed with masonry on its dramatic hilltop setting, presents extraordinary visual command over the valley and surrounding terrain, illustrating the strategic advantages of its location. Two distinct constructive phases are visible: a small upper enclosure with cistern remains and larger lower structures flanked by masonry towers with ashlar stonework at angles. Christians conquered the fortress in 1433, and a chapel was subsequently built on the ruins. Designated a Historic Monument in 1985, Castillo de Solera exemplifies medieval Islamic defensive architecture.
