Castillo de Santia

Castillo de Santia stands on a hilltop between Erla and Ejea de los Caballeros in Zaragoza's Cinco Villas comarca, dating to 1092 when King Sancho Ramírez granted its church to the San Juan de la Peña monastery. This Gothic-period fortress features a rectangular tower measuring 7 by 5 meters and standing approximately 12 meters high, surrounded by a trapezoidal walled enclosure with an arched entrance. The castle served as a lordship of the Luna counts in the 11th century and later passed through various noble hands until abandonment in the 18th century. Now endangered and listed on Spain's Red List of threatened heritage, the castle retains substantial structural integrity despite centuries of neglect.
