Castillo de Santa Gadea del Cid in Burgos province originated as an 11th-century frontier settlement between Christian Castile and the Navarrese kingdom. The current structure dates from the 15th century, constructed by Pedro López Manrique and later owned by noble families including the Lara, Manrique, and Padilla clans. Measuring approximately 70 meters in length and oriented north to south, the fortress features two large hollow towers with minimal openings, built directly on bedrock for maximum defensive strength. After listing on the Red List of Endangered Heritage in 2010, the castle underwent significant restoration and was removed from the danger list in 2018, allowing visitors to appreciate both its medieval architecture and restored keep.
