Castillo de Préjano is a 15th-century military fortification located on a small hillock at the outskirts of this La Rioja town. The fortress comprises a compact rectangular enclosure and a distinctive pentagonal strong tower standing 15 meters in height, reinforced by sloped walls with four internal stories. The castle's history spans centuries, having been granted to nobility as early as 1151 by King Alfonso VII, and later belonging to the Order of Calatrava in the 13th century. After declining into disrepair, the castle underwent comprehensive restoration from 2007 to 2019 with support from regional agricultural authorities, preserving this important medieval military structure for future generations.
