The Castillo de Polán is a medieval fortress documented as early as 1116, located in the Toledo province of Castilla-La Mancha near the provincial capital. Now in ruins, the castle's best-preserved section reveals two strong corner towers with a distinctive system of machicolations and superficial projected scaffolding—a rare architectural feature possibly inspired by French fortifications. The western facade displays this unique defensive system, one of the few examples of its kind in Spain. Historically owned by the poet Lope de Zúñiga and later the Marquises of Cerralbo, the castle is now municipal property and can be visited from the exterior with public access.
