Castillo De Paules

Castillo palacio de Paúles graces the outskirts of Erla in Aragon's Cinco Villas region, exhibiting lordly medieval architecture with a commanding presence. First documented in 1092 when Sancho Ramírez granted nearby churches to the monastery of San Juan de la Peña, the fortress evolved significantly during medieval centuries and underwent substantial 1920s reforms by the Ena family that modified its original configuration while preserving essential features. The castle comprises a rectangular nave with interior pointed arches supporting the roof, adjoined by an older tower of considerable stature. Recognized as a Cultural Heritage site (Bien de Interés Cultural) since 2006, the castle represents an important example of Aragonese lordly architecture blending medieval roots with early 20th-century stewardship.
