Castillo de Otíñar perches atop a hill southeast of Jaén city, constructed in the 13th century following the Pacto de Jaén of 1246 to monitor the strategic road to Granada. Its most distinctive feature is a central tower exceeding 20 meters in height with six-meter sides. Positioned near the abandoned hamlet of Otíñar within the Hacienda Santa Cristina estate, the fortress played a crucial role in Jaén's defensive network, maintaining visual communication with other watchtowers. The ruins today attract moderate hikers, offering a 1.4-mile trail with approximately 430 feet of elevation gain.
