Castillo de Olmos in Palomeque, Toledo province, occupies a historically significant site where the Caliph Abderramán III camped in 939 before his defeat at Simancas. In 1144, Alfonso VII donated the strategic stronghold to the military Order of San Juan de Jerusalén, establishing administrative authority over surrounding territories including Palomeque, Carranque, and El Viso de San Juan. This medieval fortress guarded important frontier passages during Castile's expansion southward. Though now extensively ruined and challenging to access, the castle remains an important archaeological landmark reflecting medieval military organization and the Church's role in frontier defense.
