Castillo de Munera is a 13th-century fortress in Munera, Albacete, located along the historic Camino de Aníbal and Via Augusta. While not towering in height, the castle preserves well-maintained walls in an oval configuration on a hill continuously inhabited since the Bronze Age and strategically significant during medieval times. Conquered by Alfonso VIII in 1213 and initially granted to his daughter Berenguela, the castle later became part of the Marquesado of Villena before suffering destruction in 1475 on orders of Isabella the Catholic during her campaign to consolidate royal control. Despite its ruined state and turbulent history, the fortress retains architectural integrity and historical significance as evidence of medieval territorial dynamics and strategic importance in central Spain.
