Castillo De Miranda Del Castañar

Castillo de Miranda del Castañar dominates a stony hill in the Sierra de Francia region of Salamanca province, where it served as the birthplace and seat of the influential County of Miranda during the Middle Ages. The castle likely originated in the 14th and 15th centuries, built atop earlier defensive structures, with its Tower of Homage possibly constructed by Pedro de Zúñiga. The fortress features a trapezoidal plan with solid cylindrical turrets at the corners, each equipped with gun emplacements and loopholes for artillery defense. The main tower displays a distinctive crenellated finish adorned with closely-spaced lobed corbels. Of private ownership, the castle's exterior can be viewed from the town square, though its interior remains closed to visitors. The entire historic center of Miranda del Castañar received official recognition as a Historic-Artistic Group in 1973.
