Castillo de Mayorga rises on a steep hillside in the Sierra de San Pedro mountains, 11 kilometers south of San Vicente de Alcántara in Badajoz province, Extremadura. This 13th-century fortress, likely built by Muslim forces and later claimed by the military Order of Alcántara, witnessed significant historical events including the rebellion of Don Alonso de Monroy and destruction by Portuguese forces in the 17th century. The best-preserved section lies on the southern side, featuring walls and a rectangular tower, with the keep located to the west. The castle remains freely accessible to visitors.
