Castillo de los Ares stands in ruins near Pozondón in Teruel's Sierra de Albarracín region, built during the 12th century as a critical defensive stronghold. This medieval fortress features an intricate design with two distinct enclosures: a lower one with four cylindrical towers and an upper section crowned by a watchtower known as "El Buco." The castle's position on a rocky platform made it an essential frontier defense between the lordship of Albarracín and the Kingdom of Aragón. Though now on the Red List of Spanish Heritage and in deteriorated condition, the surviving cistern, arrow slits, and wall sections reveal sophisticated medieval military engineering.
