Castillo de Lanjarón, locally known as Castillo de los Moros, perches on a hilltop approximately 660 meters above sea level near the village of Lanjarón in Granada province. Built during the Nasrid dynasty in the thirteenth century, this medieval fortress features a distinctive square layout with thick walls, crenellations, a reinforced tower, and pointed arch entrances reflecting Islamic military architecture blended with later Spanish construction techniques. Following Granada's surrender in 1492, the castle lost its strategic importance and gradually fell into disuse. Protected as a cultural landmark under Spanish heritage regulations, the castle offers both historical significance and moderate hiking access, providing a window into the fortress architecture of medieval Andalusia.
