Castillo de la Estrella

Castillo de la Estrella is a monumental 10th-century fortress perched atop Cerro de la Estrella in Teba, Málaga. The largest castle in Málaga province, it spans 25,000 m² with two walled enclosures, 16 square towers, and flanking circular and octagonal towers connected by crenellated walls. Reinforced during the 12th-13th centuries under Almohad rule, it features a sophisticated defensive system with a barbican, three gates, and at least seven cisterns. Declared a National Monument in 1931 and recognized as part of Spain's Network of Great Castles and Palaces in 2020, the castle represents one of the finest examples of medieval Andalusian military architecture, commanding panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.
