Castillo de la Aragonesa

Castillo de la Aragonesa is a medieval fortress located in Marmolejo, in the province of Jaén, overlooking the Guadalquivir valley and extensive olive groves. Originally built by Berbers with tapia and calicanto walls, it was later transferred to the Order of Calatrava and converted into a residential castle following the Christian conquest. The structure consists of a rectangular enclosure with cylindrical towers at its corners, and a 13th-14th century tower of homage. Named after Don Joaquín Jiménez de Palafox, Admiral of Aragon, the castle has been a landmark feature of the Aragonesa estate for centuries. Recently acquired by the municipality, it represents an important archaeological example of medieval military architecture in the region.
