Castillo de Haro

Castillo de Haro, a Renaissance fortress from the 15th century, overlooks the Záncara river valley in Villaescusa de Haro, Cuenca province, positioned midway between the notable castles of Belmonte and Garcimuñoz. Originally constructed in the 13th century by Diego López de Haro and destroyed by Sancho IV of Castile, it was reconstructed in the 15th century by the Order of Santiago in its present form. The castle retains its original distribution with a square floor plan and circular towers at each corner, whilst surrounding walls featuring circular reinforcements and gun ports demonstrate defensive innovations of the period. Vehicle access reaches the immediate vicinity via rural road, with free admission allowing visitors to explore the site and its landscape setting on foot through natural terrain.
