Castillo de Fuentes sits on a stone promontory above the Záncara River in Villarejo de Fuentes, Cuenca province, positioned within the scenic Sierra de Almenara. Built between the 14th and 15th centuries, this fortress belonged to the Marqués de Villena and formed part of the Villarejo de Fuentes lordship. Its late Gothic architecture features a square floor plan with four circular corner towers connected by limestone and flint walls, typical of the region's construction methods. While currently in progressive ruin, archaeological evidence suggests underground caves existed beneath the castle for storage and dungeons, with possible passages extending toward the river, indicating the sophistication of medieval fortification design.
