Castillo de Doña Mencía is a 15th-century fortress constructed by Diego Fernández de Córdoba between 1415 and 1420, strategically positioned at 593 meters elevation to control the vital road connecting Baena and Cabra. Built with a trapezoidal plan and circular corner towers, the castle underwent five distinct occupation phases spanning from the Roman period through medieval times. The Order of Calatrava erected an early watchtower on the site before the fortress's full construction. Today, the castle remains integrated within the town's urban core while preserving significant architectural elements in its northern sector.
