Castillo de Chirel is a medieval fortification at 654 metres elevation in Cortes de Pallás, Valencia, designed to monitor river traffic along the Júcar during the Middle Ages. This well-preserved fortress employs a triangular layout strategically adapted to the terrain, featuring defensive elements including arrow slits, parapets, and a moat. Built during Muslim domination and later remodeled between 1276-77 and 1398-1403 with Gothic enhancements, the castle remains accessible via hiking trail offering spectacular views over the Júcar gorge and surrounding landscape.
