
Castillo de La Calahorra is a fortress located in La Calahorra, Granada province, situated in the Sierra Nevada foothills. Built between 1509 and 1512, it stands as one of the first Italian Renaissance castles constructed outside Italy, representing an important architectural bridge between Islamic Andalusian traditions and European Renaissance design. The castle has achieved modern prominence as a filming location, featured in the 1974 film Stardust and serving as the fictional city of Pentos in the 2022 HBO series House of the Dragon, demonstrating its enduring cultural significance. Declared a Bien de Interés Cultural monument in 1922, the castle combines historical importance with architectural innovation and cinematic legacy.
