Castillo De Bacares

Castillo de Bacares is a 13th-century rectangular fortress in the town of Bacares, Almería, built to protect access to the Sierra de los Filabres and control the valley as part of the Nazari Kingdom's defensive system. This modest seven-room structure features five quadrangular towers and one larger compartmentalized tower following the calahorra architectural model. Constructed with stone masonry in lower zones and adobe upper walls, it contains a preserved cistern and small armory patio. Recently restored with consolidated walls and improved pedestrian access, the fortress now offers viewpoints and walkways, revealing its medieval military heritage from its position overlooking the town from a small hilltop.
