Castillo de Almanza

Castillo de Almanza is a 15th-century castle-palace located in Almanza, León, built on the foundations of an earlier 12th-century fortress. The rectangular structure features corner towers of rubble masonry and represents centuries of military and civic importance, as Almanza was historically a walled town protected by its fortress, moats, and guard posts. The town preserves a Gothic pointed-arch gateway from the 13th century that originally provided access to the walled enclosure. The castle itself reflects the evolution from medieval defense to palatial residence through its architectural design and layout. Although the structure has deteriorated significantly over time and is highly transformed, the castle is protected under Spanish historical heritage laws and permits free exterior access to visitors.
