Castillo de Alcalá, also known as Castillo de La Puebla, occupies a strategic mountain position south of Puebla de Mula in Murcia. Dating to the 8th century when Muslim forces built it to control the enclave of Mula, the fortress played a crucial role during the incorporation of the Kingdom of Murcia into the Crown of Castile in the 13th and 14th centuries. Its commanding location and robust defensive structures enabled it to maintain military significance through multiple periods of Christian and Aragonese occupation. Today recognized as a Bien de Interés Cultural (Cultural Heritage Interest Site), the castle stands as testament to the region's complex medieval past.
