Castillo Calatravo in Alcañiz, Teruel, stands as the historic stronghold of the Order of Calatrava with sections originating from the twelfth and thirteenth centuries. The fortress features a chapel, cloister, and keep adorned with important early fourteenth-century linear Gothic murals depicting chivalric themes, while fourteenth and fifteenth-century additions introduced Mudéjar ornamental elements to both the castle and surrounding walls. The eighteenth-century facade reflects later modifications to this layered structure. Designated as a cultural heritage monument in 1925 and located on Pui-Pinos Hill, the castle has functioned since 1968 as a national tourism parador, seamlessly blending its medieval military heritage with contemporary hospitality services.
