Castillo Almonacid de Toledo is a grand medieval fortress located approximately 20 km southeast of Toledo, originally constructed by the Moors in the 9th century and first mentioned in historical records in 848. Built on a commanding hilltop, it features a polygonal design with remnants of square and round defensive towers, plus a three-storey keep and ancient cisterns. Reformed in the 14th century by Archbishop Pedro Tenorio, the castle later served military purposes during the Peninsular War. Now freely accessible, visitors can explore the ruins and enjoy panoramic views of the Castilian countryside, with guided tours featuring wax statues and light displays enhancing the historical experience.
