Castellet de Carrícola

Castellet de Carrícola stands on a rocky outcrop in the Sierra de Benicadell within El Palomar, Valencia, part of the Valle de Albaida's defensive network dating to the 10th-12th centuries under the Almohad period. This fortification controlled crucial passages toward Alicante through Salem, Albaida, and Carrícola, playing a significant role in regional security during Islamic rule. The structure preserves the form of a watchtower, though later transformed by Christian construction from the 12th century onward. With a rectangular tower measuring 6 by 3 meters and standing 7 meters tall on a base of 10 by 5 meters, the castle encompasses an arms courtyard in a total area of 195 square meters. Designated as a Cultural Heritage Asset since October 2000, the site offers both historical significance and natural beauty within its protected setting.
