Castell d'Espolla

Castell d'Espolla is a 13th to 14th-century fortification situated within the urban core of Espolla in Alt Empordà, Catalonia. The structure features a rectangular floor plan possibly protected by corner towers, with remains including a building with collapsed roof, rounded arch doorway, and well-cut stone construction. Designated as a cultural property of national interest, the fortress may have originally served as a bailiff's castle or noble residence. Despite its partially ruined state, the castle provides valuable insights into medieval residential and defensive architecture in the Catalan hinterland.
