Castell dels Comtes de Santa Coloma de Queralt, with first records dating to 1018, served as the principal medieval residence of the barons of Queralt, whose estates ranked as Catalonia's second-richest patrimony after the Cardona family. The complex combines a distinctive 23-meter circular keep tower built during the 12th century, remains of low-medieval fortifications, and Renaissance palace structures. Following major 16th-century transformations when the nobility relocated to urban centers, and after restoration beginning in 1987, this multi-phase architectural ensemble now functions as the town's cultural center, preserving the integration of religious, civil, and military structures characteristic of Catalonia's walled medieval settlements.
