Castell de Vilarnadal

Castell de Vilarnadal is a 14th-century Gothic fortress located in the Alt Empordà region of Girona, Catalonia. Originally built as a noble stronghold during the height of medieval power, the castle was later adapted into a working farmhouse (masia), reflecting the economic and social transitions that shaped the region over centuries. The structure exhibits characteristic Gothic architectural elements typical of Catalan medieval fortifications. The castle's long history is intertwined with significant figures of regional importance—notably, in 1653, French royal authority granted jurisdiction and ownership to Joan de Bassedas i de Biure, a canon of the cathedral of Girona. Today, the castle remains a protected cultural heritage site, preserved as a testament to the region's feudal past and the evolution of Catalan rural architecture.
