Castell De Verdú

Castell de Verdú represents one of Verdú's most emblematic medieval buildings, designated as a cultural asset of national interest. First recorded in 1080 after lands were granted to settlers by Count Ramon Berenguer I around 1056, the castle evolved significantly between the 13th and 15th centuries. Its core features a remarkably well-preserved circular tower with lookout and defense functions, surrounded by buildings incorporating Gothic and Renaissance elements. The Renaissance entrance stairs rank among the Urgell region's finest architectural achievements. After Poblet monastery owned the castle from 1227 to 1836, the town council acquired portions in 1988, undertaking restoration efforts to preserve this important Catalonian fortress.
