Castell de Vallfogona

Castell de Vallfogona in Vallfogona de Ripollès, situated within the ancient territory of Milany castle, is first documented in 1280 and belonged to the Vallfogona family from the 13th century. The fortified structure features a square floor plan with the northern half still substantially preserved, containing a ground floor and three stories, while the southern half retains ruins of the main floor with large rooms. A large square tower at the northwest corner has undergone recent consolidation work, demonstrating ongoing preservation efforts. Architecturally positioned within the 13th-century Catalan feudal tradition, it represents a secondary stronghold within the greater territorial network of medieval La Garrotxa, offering valuable insights into regional defensive architecture and noble landholding patterns.
