Castell de Solius

Castell de Solius, constructed between the end of the 12th century and beginning of the 13th century, dominated the Solius valley in Santa Cristina d'Aro in the Baix Empordà region of Girona province from its position atop a rocky hill. Originally called Castrum Rupis de Solis, the castle served both military and administrative functions, governing the territory under its authority while being the property of the Girona Cathedral's main sacristy from 1231 until 1855. Following the remences wars of the 15th century, the castle was progressively abandoned, with the remains largely destroyed by wind in 1969; today, visitors can explore the hiking trail around the site and view remaining vestiges among the surrounding vegetation.
