Castell de Selmella

Castell de Selmella is an 11th-12th century medieval fortification occupying the hilltop of the same name in Pont d'Armentera, Alt Camp, strategically positioned on a peak of the Comaverd mountain range forming the boundary between the plains of Camp de Tarragona and the Conca de Barberà. First documented in 1012 in a property dispute, the castle was administered from the 12th century by the monastery of Santes Creus while being owned by noble families including the Alemanys and Armengols until the 19th century. Now in progressive ruin and abandoned since approximately the 15th century, the castle remains accessible to hikers following the designated trail that leads to the site.
