Castell de Savallà del Comtat, documented from the 10th century, occupies a commanding hilltop position in the Conca de Barberà. Originally a medieval fortress, the castle underwent significant transformation into a Renaissance palace during the 16th century under the counts of Savallà, becoming one of the region's most important lordly residences. While the palace gradually deteriorated following abandonment and suffered severe damage during the 19th-century Carlist wars, with architectural elements later transferred to the castle of Peralada, the site remains historically significant as evidence of the transition from medieval military architecture to Renaissance palatial grandeur in Catalonian nobility's residences.
