Castell de Riba-roja occupies a strategic position in Riba-roja d'Ebre within the Ribera d'Ebre comarca in southern Catalonia. Documented from the twelfth century, this fortress originally belonged to the Knights Templar and subsequently passed to the Hospitaller order, maintaining its importance throughout the medieval period. The castle remains in a consolidated state of ruin but is recognized as an important cultural monument protected under Spanish historical heritage laws. Its remains continue to embody the military and religious significance of the site during the centuries when monastic military orders played pivotal defensive roles in the region.
