Castell de Pinyana

Castell de Pinyana rises dramatically from a peak near Querol in the Alt Camp region of Catalonia, positioned along the historic route connecting Pont d'Armentera with Querol near the Gaià River. Documented in historical records from 986, the castle passed through the hands of noble families including the Cervelló lineage in the 11th century before being transferred to the Santes Creus monastery in the 13th century. Today's visitors can see preserved wall sections, a distinctive circular tower, and the remains of the Chapel of Santa Maria de Pinyana, which features a barrel vault with a semicircular arch. This hilltop location commands strategic views of the surrounding landscape, illustrating the fortress's medieval defensive importance.
